The first thing you need to know is that ADT Home Security offers two main options for who will install your security system. The first option to use ADT’s own installation professionals. The second option is to hire one of ADT’s local contractors otherwise known as ADT dealers.

How Long Does Installation Take?
ADT Home Security prides itself on reasonable, affordable, and high-quality security for all homeowners. That doesn’t always mean the quickest installation process, though. The installation tech will want to ensure that your house is completely canvassed and protected.
As such, the timespan for the installation depends on several factors. How big is your home? How many components are you having installed?
Timing will vary from installation to installation, but the following will provide you a rough estimate.
ADT Installation Window
Like home repairs and appliance deliveries, ADT Home Security schedules their installation services in one-hour blocks or windows. Instead of saying that your installation tech will arrive at 12:30 AM, for example, they’ll give you a window of 12:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
This does not mean that your installation will only take one hour to complete. It only means that your ADT installation tech will arrive sometime within the window provided.
Standard Security System Installation
Because ADT security systems are so customizable, defining a “standard” installation option is a bit tricky. The only components that every ADT security system will include are the keypad and individual window/door sensors.
The keypad controls your ADT system from one centralized location. It allows you to “arm” your home with the push of a button. The sensors send alerts to the keypad when doors and windows are opened while the system is armed.
Whether you opt for these standard components alone or some of the other bells and whistles, the ADT Home Security installation package consists of two options: wired and wireless.
Wired security systems use two or four-conductor wire to link all of the security components in your house. This is the best option for older homes and homes that already have security systems in place. Most of your technician’s time in this type of installation will be dedicated to rerouting the wires to connect to the new control panel.
Unless your home is prewired, ADT will recommend the wireless security system. Although the ADT keypad will connect to an AC Adaptor via wire, (which they will hide) everything else will feed into that keypad remotely. Even the cellular signal will be connected to the local cell towers wirelessly.
Because wired systems are, by nature, so much more extensive, they require additional installation time.
Wireless systems, meanwhile, are a lot simpler and quicker. You can expect your technician to complete the standard installation process in 6 to 7 hours. For homes with more than 20 doors and windows, you should anticipate at least 6 to 8 hours for a complete installation.
Extra Installation Components
One of the best things about ADT is the variety of security options it provides. Although the standard system alone is robust enough to leave most homeowners feeling safe and secure, ADT offers several additional components.
The most common add-ons are smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. These sensors do not replace existing smoke or carbon monoxide detectors you may have in your home. They are in addition to your current infrastructure. This means that should one of the ADT monitored detectors go off, your keypad will immediately call the monitoring center where an ADT representative will verify if a call to the fire department is necessary or not.

Homeowners can also purchase motion detectors, deadbolts, automatic lights, and extra keypads.
